Tapping into people’s love of pets on social

Increase brand love by tapping into people's love of pets

Our current Covid-19 reality

More than ever, pets are giving us the solace we need. In times of isolation, pets can make us feel better, give companionship and offer up an excuse to get out of the house.

Of course, pets are nothing new on social media.

About 65% of pet owners post about their furry friends on social media an average of two times per week. 16% post more than four times per week. 13% admitted to posting about their pets even more than they do their human family! (Google)

In addition, people watch an abundance of content that revolves around pets; from silly videos to pet challenges to pet accounts where the animals ‘post’ content themselves.

How brands use pet content to communicate with their fans

Innocent has taken to posting daily updates with self proclaimed ‘useless information’ - the sole purpose? Entertaining people in lockdown, and keeping their spirits up. They end off these posts with adorable pics of users’ pets, to further engage their audience as well as include fans in their content.

With clever copy and cute photos, Innocent are able to engage their audience and keep people interested in their updates.

Volkswagen recently posted a video of the cutest puppies, with no cars in sight. The caption? Naturally equipped with Blind Spot Sensor, a reference to the car whilst using dogs to catch people’s attention.

Aren’t they cute?

Cute enough to convince you to buy a Volkswagen?

Pets on social media accounts

It’s not only brands who feature pets - an astonishing number of people have created social media accounts for their pets.

One in six people have created a social media profile specifically for their pet – and half of those pet owners say their pets get more social attention than they do! (Google)

Pet influencers have become so popular, with the most popular having followers in the millions. The most popular animals on Instagram include: Jiff Pom – 8.9M Followers, Nala The Cat – 3.7M Followers, and Doug The Pug – 3.6M Followers.

These numbers are astounding and show the powerful impact that pets can have on social media interaction.
