Stay on top of these social media trends in 2022

Here’s an astonishing fact for you… the world has over 3.7bn social media users! This ever-changing online space is constantly evolving, and new platforms are coming to light all the time. Falling behind the curve could cost your business massively. But what social trends do you need to stay on top of in 2022 to ensure that you don’t miss out on potential customers? We explore three options here…

More brands set to use AR and VR Technology

You’re shopping online at your favourite store and see a beautiful new dress. Perfect! Let’s add it to the basket. But hang on a moment… how will you know if it fits, and will really suit you? Unsure, you decide to back out of the purchase at the crucial moment.

The above scenario is all too common and has been plaguing brands for years. Wouldn’t it be great if your customers could try on the new dress virtually before completing their purchase? Brands who decide to incorporate Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) into their online strategy can help consumers make more assured purchase decisions before spending.

As you can imagine, this exciting advance in technology is a revelation for e-commerce companies, who can now stand out from the crowd and offer a more comprehensive and exciting user experience. Not only are customers able to ‘try on’ new items without ever leaving the house, but by saving money on excess returns costs, the brand can also increase efforts towards promoting sustainability.

Some major fashion brands are already noticing the importance of AR and VR technology. Companies such as Farfetch, Prada, and Piaget are all teaming up with AR experts, Snapchat. The platform’s enriched technology is able to recognise and react to changes in the body’s motion and face measurements, providing users with the capability to try on glasses, clothing, jewelry and handbags from the comfort of their home.

As headsets become more affordable, AR/VR is bound to become more a part of our everyday lives. It’s such an exciting world and we can’t wait to see how this develops.

You need to know about these Pinterest shopping features!

Are you looking to blow your competition out of the water with an effective way of enticing new customers and converting users into purchasers? Pinterest’s new and improved shopping tools offer just that!

Social commerce is exploding and the need for an effective and reliable shopping experience is key to Pinterest success. Searching for and purchasing new products through the app has never been easier with the platform introducing tools such as Product Pins and intelligent ads. Enabling users to save the items they value on Pinterest and re-visit them at a touch of a button, means that they are more likely to complete the sales funnel straight through to purchase.

Pinterest users spend 80% more in retail than consumers who don’t use Pinterest at all. Add that to the fact that shopping is the intent for nearly two thirds of Pinners and 98% of all Pinterest users go on to try a new brand that they find on the platform. It was only a matter of time before the platform seriously invested in its in-app check out technology.

Pinterest has around 367 million active users around the world each month, who saved in excess of 240 BILLION pins since the app’s launch! With striking stats like these, we can only predict great things in 2022 for Pinterest.

New 10 Minute feature arrives on TikTok

TikTok is renowned for its influence on music and popular culture, exciting special effects technology, AR implements and short videos. But the latter is due to change in 2022.

TikTok’s video length started off at a mere 15 seconds, which expanded up to 60 seconds shortly after. This pushed content creators to produce multiple “part 1, part 2 etc.,” videos which in turn boosted the number of subscribers at an astronomical rate. But in July 2021, the platform had a shift in direction and  introduced 3 minute videos. But after speaking to TechCrunch back in February, the short-video behemoth announced that it would offer a further increase to its video length, upping the limit to 10 minutes.

So, why does this matter to marketers? It’s simple, longer videos allow the platform to sell more ads. These ads will garner more attention from users and further promote the brand message. Additionally, the user experience will likely be improved as it can be exacerbating for the consumer to scroll through a creator’s entire feed, just to hunt down the next video in their series.

The Mighty Social team have witnessed first-hand the platform’s meteoric rise. This ambitious app clearly has its eyes on the $28.8 billion ad revenue that competitor YouTube amassed in 2021 and we will be excited to see if they can topple Google’s YouTube for number one video content provider.
