Marketers Should Watch Out For These Apps in 2022

Just a quick search for ‘Social Media’ in the App Store will show that there are literally HUNDREDS of emerging platforms and technology to choose from. Community activities, political discussions and even apps which purely focus on the gaming phenomenon Fortnite; if you name it, there’s more than likely a social platform for it.

But with so many baskets to put your eggs and hard-earned marketing budget into, which platforms will make it big in 2022? In this week’s blog, Mighty Social explore three of the hottest apps of 2022.

TikTok

The growth rate of TikTok is unprecedented (ugh, there’s that word again!) and the channel continues to impact society faster than any other platform in history. The secret to the TikTok’s success seems to be that it reaches out to a much younger demographic, with the vast majority of its users under the age of 30 years old. It is this appeal that caused the app to quickly gain 1 billion active users since its launch in 2017 and Mighty Social have high expectations that the platform will hit the 1.5 billion mark this year.

The short-video, social media showstopper is doing everything right in our opinion. Neither the app nor its creators take themselves too seriously and content is fun, engaging and fast-paced. Everyone from dancing grannies down to train enthusiasts are making content, in turn influencing our viewing and buying decisions on a daily basis. Lovable train guy (and now huge TikTok sensation) Francis Bourgeois has even collaborated with the likes of Gucci and North Face, proving that just about anyone can make it in the world of TikTok!

TikTok should be a key factor within any upcoming Social Media Marketing Strategy and recent research conducted by HubSpot proves it. They discovered that around 93% of marketers who leverage TikTok plan to increase their investment or continue with the same amount in 2022.

Put simply, TikTok is here to stay and we can’t wait to see how it evolves!

Twitch

Twitch is the live-streaming service that has shaped an entire generation of video gamers, who regularly take to the platform to showcase their skills on smash hits such as Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty and Fortnite.

Twitch is different because it allows viewers to interact with content creators in real-time. If the audience has seen something that the player has missed, they can tell them. No more waiting for your turn on the controller, now the audience can play along for as long as they desire!

The pandemic changed our ability to interact with one another whilst gaming, but Twitch made it easy for streamers to connect with their audiences. The influencer becomes a vessel for watchers’ enjoyment and the audience becomes part of the experience and forgets that they are not actually playing the game.

The platform has gone from strength to strength since its initial launch back in 2011, amassing a total of 140 million monthly active users. Due to the popularity of the app, some of the more established content producers now offer a subscription plan to their patrons. For a fixed fee, exclusive content is provided to subscribers, such as hacks, cheats, shortcuts or walk-throughs.

But the app is not simply limited to video game content. Twitch also offers its patrons interactive live concerts, sporting events and even exclusive access to live music festivals!

The app’s popularity continues to grow year on year and with 30 million average daily visitors, 70% of which range between 16 and 34 years old. We believe that Twitch is a fantastic opportunity for marketers to interact with their target audience and build long-lasting, community engagement.

Clubhouse

Launched back in 2020, the Clubhouse experience is a combination of an informal panel discussion mixed with group networking and an interactive podcast.

Part of the initial draw of Clubhouse was that it went against the Social Media grain and marketed itself as an invite-only app. Exclusivity is exciting and people love to be a part of something special, however, it becomes difficult to grow a Social Media app if you do not allow people in to join! With that in mind, the platform understandably had a change of tact in July 2021 and has since amassed a total of 10 million active weekly users.

Also, unlike more traditional social media platforms, the connection between the Clubhouse audience and its creators is solely auditory. Around 700,000 conversation rooms are opened within the app every day, giving users access to the thoughts and voices of major celebrities such as Drake, Elon Musk and Facebook’s very own Mark Zuckerberg.

At the start of 2022, Clubhouse ranked #12 in Social Networking on the App Store and we’re excited to see what the future holds for this ingenious app!
